This is the main bazaar street of Aswan, the best bazaar outside Cairo. Sensible, in a place which is so burning hot during the day, it is onl now, when the sun has set, that it becomes thronged with people. The first 500 m of Sharia El Souk retains something of the atmosphere of the old caravan days. Spices, gum and ebony out of Africa are traded here, alongside locally woven wugs and manufactured goods. Buy yourself some freshly baked bread along the way, and wash it down with pressed cane juice.
