Day 1: Arrival Amman
Upon arrival at the Queen Alia International Airport meet and assist by our representative and transfer to your hotel in Amman.
Day 2: Amman – Azraq
In the morning you have a city tour in Amman, already known in the antiquity as Rabbat-Ammon. We view the Roman Theater, which offers space for 6.000 visitors, and the Al Hussein Mosque in Downtown. On the Citadel you view the remains of a Hercules Temple, an Umayyad Palace and visit the Archaeological Museum with many old and interesting artefacts. In Kan Zaman, a formerly caravanserai, you can have lunch and watch in little shops traditional handcraft. In the afternoon we drive to the oasis Azraq in the middle of the eastern desert. Here you find several water pools and marshland, which you enjoy during an one hour walk. Overnight in Azraq.
Day 3: Azraq – Qasr Amra – Mount Nebo – Madaba
Today we visit the black castle in Azraq and go on to another desert castle, Qasr Amra. It is very famous for its frescoes showing hunting scenes, dancers and portraits of caliphs from the 8th century. We leave the desert behind us and drive to the 800 meter high Mount Nebo, from where you have a panoramic view over the Dead Sea to Israel. On the mountain are two churches from 6th century with marvelous mosaics. More of the mosaic art you see in the town Madaba. In the St. George’s Church exists the famous map of Palestine from 6th century, consisting of millions of tesseras. Overnight in Madaba.
Day 4: Madaba – Wadi Mujib – Wadi Bin Hammad – Petra
Mujib is the deepest nature reserve in the world, ranging from a gorge 410 meter below sea level up to 900 meter. The various vegetation and several small rivers enable a rich fauna and flora. We hike around two to three hours passing by an enclosure of Nubian ibex. After lunch our next destination is Wadi Bin Hammad. Here we walk through gorges, a little river and enjoy the lush vegetation. We go on to Petra for overnight.
Day 5: Petra
A must for every traveler in Jordan is a visit of the red-rose rock city Petra. The Arabic Nabataeans settled here in the 6th century BC and gained to power with the incense trade. After the Romans took over the rock city lost its meaning. The Suisse explorer Johann L. Burckhardt recovered Petra for the west in 1812. In Petra you ride on a horse to the Siq, a narrow canyon, which leads you 1.2 km by foot to the most beautiful monument the Treasury. Besides you see the Amphitheater, the Silk Tomb and other Royal Tombs, Qasr al-Bint and you will ascend the stone steps to the High Place. After lunch break we walk on an old pilgrim path to the impressing 45 meter high monastery El Deir. Overnight in hotel .
Day 6: Petra – Jebel Haroun – Little Petra
Today we hike to the summit of the 1400 meter high Jebel Haroun in the Petra area. On the way we pass by the snake monument and after several hours we reach the top of Jebel Haroun with its little white mosque. This is believed to be the burial place of Aaron, brother of prophet Moses. From here you have a fantastic view over the surrounding. Our way back brings us to Little Petra, the suburb of Petra, where you can recover from the efforts in a quiet and peaceful night in a camp.
Day 7: Little Petra
We start in the morning with a hike in Little Petra, where you discover further facades and rock inscriptions from the Nabataeans, the spring Bedebdah and the remains of a neolithic settlement in Beida. By the way you will get an impression of the Bedouin’s life in this area. Camping in Little Petra.
Day 8: Little Petra – Dana
We drive to the nature reserve Dana, an area of valleys and mountains, ranging from the Jordan Rift Valley to Wadi Araba. Diverse like the landscape – wood, rocks, sand dunes – is the fauna and flora. The village Dana is located over a fissured valley and offers a spectacular panorama. After we experienced the area around the village overnight in Dana Guesthouse.
Day 9: Dana – Wadi Feynan
Escorted by a ranger we hike through the Dana reserve down to Wadi Feynan. The trail is about 14 km long and lasts around six hours. It brings us to the copper mines in Wadi Feynan, where over3000 years ago copper has been mined and worked up. Over that you view the remains of Byzantine churches. Overnight in the Feynan Eco Lodge in the middle of the desert.
Day 10: Wadi Feynan – Wadi Araba
Your last hiking tour will be in Wadi Araba, part of the Great Rift Valley sited between the Red and the Dead Sea. Here let yourself affect by the beauty of the desert with gorges and mountains, reaching a height from 1.700 meter, the coloured splendour of the landscape, ranging from red to beige sand dunes. Overnight in a camp in Wadi Araba.
Day 11: Wadi Feynan – Amman
In the morning we drive along the desert highway back to Amman where you have the rest of the day for free. Stroll in the suq in Downtown or just relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Jordan’s capital. Overnight in hotel .
Day 12: Departure
Transfer to the airport in Amman to board your international flight.
